$3,000 in thefts
Copper wire was stolen from the light poles at the soccer and baseball fields at Sports and Leisure Park in Chowchilla for the second time this month, a spokeswoman for the city said.
The city spent $1,800 just a few weeks ago to repair what was stolen, and now the damage estimate is more than $3,000, spokeswoman Peggy Haupt said Friday.
The wire was stolen from one of the light poles on the soccer fields, from two poles on the baseball field, and from four park lights. Haupt said this is a safety concern for residents who visit the park.
