Coats for Kids asks for help

Madera city and county residents with new or used coats lying around the house take note; the Madera Salvation Army needs your help in assisting needy children, director Carrie Phillips said.

On Friday, the month-long Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids drive will begin, Phillips said, with at least four Madera businesses accepting coat donations for all children, toddler to teen.

“Last year we had 82 coats donated, including 31 brand new ones from the Madera Unified School District,” Phillips said. “We don’t have a goal, we just get as many as we can, turn around, and give them away.”

Phillips said coat donations can be made at several locations, including: Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Service at 232 S. Schnoor St.; Golden 1 Credit Union’s Madera and Oakhurst branches; General Builders Supply at 1808 Howard Road and the Salvation Army location itself at 1800 Howard Road...
