Coarsegold top COPs honored

MADERA RANCHOS — A husband and wife team from Coarsegold accepted the top COP (Citizen On Patrol) of the Year award Saturday night at a catered banquet that, at times, was standing room only.

Volunteers with the Madera County Sheriff’s Citizens On Patrol volunteer association held the celebration Saturday at a Madera Ranchos senior center off Fernwood Drive on Saturday for their unit as well as for those who contribute greatly.

Citizens on Patrol assist with traffic control, Search and Rescue missions, disasters, house checks for vacationing homeowners, and welfare checks on Elder Orphan program clients. They sometimes function as first responders and their training and certification is self-funded.

Suzetta and John Pelowski were jointly named COP of the Year for “their tireless service to their unit, the sheriff’s office and citizens of Madera County,” according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart...
