An 18-year-old was arrested Tuesday after allegedly waving a fake handgun while driving past a school bus stop, according to Madera County Sheriff spokeswoman Erica Stuart.

Joshua Oldham of Coarsegold was riding as a passenger in a car when he was seen raising the fake gun as the car passed by a bus stop shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, Stuart said.

Deputies caught up with the car at Spring Valley Elementary School on Road 200 in O’Neals. The school was placed on temporary lockdown while deputies arrested Oldham, Stuart said.

It is unlawful to exhibit replica handguns in public in the state of California. Oldham was booked into county jail with bail set at $5,000.
