Club gives more than $10,000 in scholarships

A local service club awarded more than $10,000 in scholarships to 12 area high school graduates headed for universities or vocational training.

Scholarship recipients were Ryan Petty of Pioneer Technical Center; Christine Cake and Gabriella Garcia of Eastin Arcola; Chloe Doyle of Liberty High School; Madera South’s Katherine Ibrahim, Teddy Nicole Hansen, Emily Ochoa, Micaela Torres, Sumayyah Din and Cristal Pedraza; and Madera High’s Crystal Cisneros and Michael Say.

The 2013 graduates were recognized in Madera Rotary Club’s regular meeting at the Madera Municipal Golf Course.

Rotary’s scholarship chairperson Julia O’Kane spoke of each student’s personal achievements before them and their parents. Students introduced themselves and talked about their future plans for college and careers...
