The City of Madera is reviewing its existing animal ordinance.
Shelter volunteer DJ Becker spoke before the city council at the Sept. 19 meeting, and said the present ordinance is too basic and does not limit the numbers or types of animals residents can have on city properties.
Becker said with the passage of increased city licensing fees for unaltered dogs, shelter volunteers had become aware of many new situations with out-of-control animal populations.
