City leaf cleanup begins next week

It’s time for Maderans to rake up their fall leaves. The City of Madera Public Works Department will begin the annual leaf cleanup Tuesday.

Depending on weather conditions, it may take up to eight weeks to remove all of the leaves from the city, officials said.

Only leaves may be placed in the street gutters for removal. Bottles, cans, boards, limbs, brush, rocks and other debris can severely damage equipment and injure workers, so it is imperative residents remove such hazards before pickup, officials said.

The city will be divided into ten sections, and leaves will be picked up from each section, starting at Section 10 and moving counter-clockwise to Section 1. The cycle will be repeated until all leaves are removed, officials said...
