The City of Madera will accept applications for its second Citizens Academy, scheduled to begin in March. Deadline for registration is Feb. 29.
According to Patty Faiad of the city administrator’s office, citizen academies are in use throughout the United States to teach participants to improve communication, provide education about public processes, and “serve as a logical point of departure for individuals wanting to serve on boards, commissions, and elected office.”
Madera’s program will be an introductory program for individuals who have an interest in becoming more engaged, but who may have little or no experience.
Classes will include sessions on the role of the City Council, staff functions, finance, land-use regulation, parks, police and fire, and neighborhood revitalization....
