City gets kick from opening new soccer field

Soccer players, soccer fans and public officials gathered Thursday afternoon to commemorate the opening of the city’s newest soccer field on the southeast side of the Madera Sunrise Rotary Sports Complex at 1609 Clinton St.

It is the 10th soccer field at the site, according to Parks and Community Services Department director Mary Anne Seay, who spoke at the ceremony.

Mayor Brett Frazier tried out a few kicks and blocks and pronounced the soccer field a good one.

Seay said several sources of funds were drawn on to pay for the project...
