Citizen On Patrol, 70, dies

A 70-year-old Madera County Sheriff Citizen On Patrolman died suddenly on Sunday, Sheriff John Anderson announced Tuesday.

Gerald Kusa, known to his colleagues and friends as Jerry, joined the Sheriff’s nationally recognized Citizens On Patrol unit in October 2011, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart.

Kusa’s beat, primarily Chowchilla, would often extend beyond that part of the county into other sections on the Valley floor and even taking him to perform assignments in the foothills of Eastern Madera County, Stuart said.

Never one to shy away from what he called his civic duty, no task was ever too tall for Kusa. In the short time he served as Madera County’s second set of eyes, he quickly became known as the go-to guy who could always be counted on no matter what, and no matter when, Stuart said...
