Churchgoers feed homeless for Thanksgiving

As many Maderans comfortably prepared for Thanksgiving feasts or Black Friday specials, some men, women and children without shelter or much else gave their thanks.

That gratitude was for Veronica Galeano, a member of Iglesia Nueva Esperanza and Good News Ministries, who organized for the third year a Thanksgiving celebration to feed and clothe them on Thursday.

“We do this to help the most needy, the homeless who live under the bridge. They’re the ones who need the most love and affection during this holiday,” said Galeano.

Fellow churchgoers agreed. “We do this today because it’s the actual holiday. And we thought, if we can be with our families, eat our Thanksgiving feast, then why can’t they? So we said, let’s take them what we eat during this day, like the turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and all that, so they can enjoy it too,” said Lupita Martinez, who helped Galeano organize the event and is also a member of Iglesia Nueva Esperanza...
