A 28-year-old man was arrested during a traffic stop on northbound State Route 99 just south of Avenue 20 after a California Highway Patrol K9 officer found four pounds of marijuana in his car.

James Ryan Akridge, reportedly of Florida, was charged with drug transportation and possession with the intent to sell. He remains in Madera County Jail.

According to reports, Akridge was driving a rental car Tuesday morning and told officers he had purchased the marijuana — processed in four one-pound bags — in Fresno with the intent to resell it farther north. He declined to say if others were involved, according to officers.

Officers seized the marijuana and multiple cellphones with alleged texts to purchase marijuana as evidence.
