CHP car flips chasing ‘crotch rocket’

Officer moderately injured, motorcyclist flees

A high speed chase of a fleeing motorcycle on State Route 99 ended with a California Highway Patrol car rolling over at the Avenue 20 1/2 off-ramp.

The officer, whose name is not being released, is a six year veteran of the CHP. He sustained moderate injuries in the crash but was able to climb out of the overturned car on his own. He was flown to Community Regional Medical Center via LifeFlight helicopter, officers said.

“He sustained a large laceration to the head, and other cuts and bruises. But we have been informed he should be OK, and fortunately did not sustain more serious injuries,” said CHP Sgt. Jon Johnson.

The CHP car rolled and flipped several times about 7:30 Wednesday night and landed upside down in heavy mud, near the parking lot of a grain storage and elevator facility adjacent to SR 99, officers said...
