Chowchilla woman killed in collision

Stella Mary Alvarez, 64, of Chowchilla died Wednesday in an early morning traffic collision on State Route 99 near Avenue 18 1/2, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Sgt. Lincoln McKenna said other motorists saw the woman’s car rear end another vehicle about 5:40 am, before spinning out of control and striking the center divider.

The woman was not wearing a seat belt, and may have also had a medical issue, McKenna said.

“The woman was driving southbound in a 1995 Chevy Corsica, just north of Dry Creek. She struck a southbound Dodge Ram 250 pickup truck traveling at a stated speed of 68 mph. That driver said he felt a rear impact, and he briefly lost control. However, he was able to regain control before colliding with any other vehicles,” McKenna said...
