Chowchilla-Madera County Fair begins

The Chowchilla-Madera County Fair is under way. Themed “Rides, Slides & Cowhides,” the four-day event includes livestock exhibitions and competitions, still exhibits, contests, carnival games, mechanical rides and other entertainment.

The livestock show started at 9 a.m. Thursday with beef, boer goat and swine competitions, followed by dairy and sheep. Today, poultry and rabbit will be shown and showmanship awards will begin at 3:30 p.m. The livestock auction is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, preceded by a buyer’s barbecue at 11 a.m.

Carnival games and mechanical rides are set to open at 3 p.m. today with entertainment to follow at 3:30 p.m. Performances include racing pigs, hypnotism and motorsport truck and tractor pulls. Country band Southern Bend will take the stage on Friday from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Aaron Avila and Second Wind, who play a variety of music including classic country and 80’s hard rock, are set to perform from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Leaving Austin will close the concert series that night playing from 8 to 10 p.m.

Caravanserai, a group that plays tribute to Santana, a Latin music influence rock band, will perform on Sunday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday...
