Chowchilla announces new police lieutenant

CHOWCHILLA — The City of Chowchilla has announced the promotion of Police Sgt. David Riviere to lieutenant in the Chowchilla Police Department.

This is a second-in-command management position in the department, under the direction of Police Chief Jay Varney.

“We are happy to have David promoted from within the ranks of the police department to provide quality management in public safety,” said City Administrator Mark Lewis. “Lieutenant Riviere’s leadership will be an asset to our city’s management team.”

David Riviere has worked for the Chowchilla Police Department for 16 years. He began his local law enforcement career with the Madera County Department of Corrections in 1991 as a correctional officer II. Prior to that time, Riviere served in the U.S. Air Force for five years...
