Child molester gets six-year prison term

A Mexican national in the United States illegally was sentenced by a Madera County Superior Court judge to six years in prison Friday morning for multiple instances of forcible child molestation against a girl under the age of 14.

Paulino Garcia, 24, pled guilty to one count of child molestation and one count of forcible child molestation as part of a plea agreement that will include deportation after he serves the six-year prison term.

Sally Moreno, the lead prosecutor in the case, said the choice not to deport Garcia right away was a “policy decision made at echelons above my level.”

“Part of it is we don’t want him coming back,” Moreno said. “It’s an expense obviously to the state having to house him, but that’s the punishment he gets. And if we just deported him there’s no guarantee he wouldn’t be back tomorrow.”...
