A nationwide road tour to raise awareness of global food issues stopped in Madera on Monday, and dozens of local residents with ties to the agriculture industry viewed a presentation said to be helpful in bringing light to what they called the truth about their work.
Called the “Chew On This Tour,” it invited attendees into a large theater trailer in groups to view a video presentation from former NFL player and professional wrestler Bill Goldberg, who discussed the world hunger problem.
“I’ve taken down some very formidable opponents in my career,” Goldberg said. “But when I think about people who don’t get enough to eat, children who go to bed hungry, I realize few problems are as tough to take down as global hunger.
“Every year lack of food kills more people worldwide than war, AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined,” Goldberg said. “Hunger even kills more people than all forms of cancer combined. Every day, 25,000 people die from starvation and malnutrition.” ...
