Cheer team raises funds for cancer patient

Madera South cheer and dance advisor Tammi Britton likes to keep her cheerleaders busy and helping in the community. She thinks it is a great lesson to learn to give back at every opportunity.

So it wasn’t surprising when Britton suggested the team do something for cancer patient Abby Grace Needham, the 5-year-old daughter of Madera High teacher Duncan Needham. After considering several ideas, the cheerleaders decided to hold a bake sale.

Britton and the cheer squad wanted to buy Abby and her sister, Lilly, princess dresses and a Build-A-Bear gift card for the Needham’s upcoming trip to Disneyland, which was Abby’s wish for her fifth birthday.

In two hours, the squad raised more than $500 in donations from the bake sale...
