CertainTeed’s ‘green’ efforts recognized by EPA

With the green initiative gaining speed in California, CertainTeed in Chowchilla has stepped up to the plate. In the beginning of 2011, the entire manufacturing plant went green.

The plant manufactures insulation for construction. Before the switch, the insulation was made with a formaldehyde-type “glue” that was far from eco-friendly. Now the insulation is held together with an organic green binder.

“California was the first to start to change laws which means that we were the first in our company in the world to switch to green,” Plant Manager Matthew Prue said.

The insulation now takes on a brown color replacing the bright pink or yellow that most people associate with the material...
