This year’s county winner in dairy goats is Liam Cavaletto, and it all started with a tiny La Mancha wether picked up at the Easton Livestock sale one rainy Saturday.

That wether, named Sherman, came home with Liam, went to school at Sherman Thomas Charter School with Liam’s mom, Sue, and was so much fun as a pet that it was decided that dairy goats should become the next 4-H project.

After some research, Liam bought his first doe, Amethyst, as a dry yearling to show at the Madera County Fair in Chowchilla. Liam had so much fun showing Amethyst that he purchased a second goat, a doeling named Boo, from breeders in Manteca and then another from local breeders Kate and Lynn Bigelow.

The herd was now up to three and Liam would show them at the local fairs and sanctioned dairy goat shows in the valley...
