Careers explored during extravaganza at Desmond

Hundreds of seventh- and eighth-grade students at Desmond Middle School talked to correctional officers, lawyers, nurses, and more at the school’s annual Career Extravaganza on Friday.

Representatives from more than 20 local businesses and agencies set up booths in the school’s gym to give students a taste of what their careers are like.

Students were encouraged to ask questions and record responses on a questionnaire to help them decide which careers they found interesting.

“It helps them get engaged and encourages interaction,” said organizer Cindy Rodriguez, who noted that once the students return to class, they talk about what they learned about different careers...
