Candidate list finalized

At 5 p.m. Wednesday, the election rolls were finalized for a number of Madera County offices. Several prospective candidates who had filed their preliminary paperwork decided against a run.

Some incumbents will run unopposed in the race, including District 2 Supervisor David Rogers, school superintendent Cecilia Massetti, clerk-recorder Rebecca Martinez and treasurer-tax collector Tracy Kennedy Desmond.

Rogers expressed his gratitude for another term to serve.

“We have accomplished many things together over the past three years, and faced some of the toughest issues seen in this county in decades,” said Rogers, who mentioned the high-speed rail project, drought, flooding, new development decisions, county reorganization and economic downturns...
