Cancer survivors celebrate at brunch

The assembly hall at the Church of Christ on Sunset Avenue was filled with more than 100 cancer survivors Saturday morning as they celebrated their victory over the dreaded disease.

The annual brunch is sponsored by the American Cancer Society’s Madera Relay For Life committee.

This year’s theme was Hawaiian and many patrons dressed in leis and attire appropriate for the Islands. Table settings featured a Polynesian theme and were decorated by the youth, and their parents, of the Great Beginnings Learning Center. Survivor Kay McCullough and her husband Ken provided music and sound as disc jockeys.

A special treat for the survivors this year was a performance by the Polynesian Club of Fresno. They entertained the crowd with music and different styles of dances, including the hula, and even had some survivors attempting the hip swaying movements.
