Luncheon and raffle tickets are now available for Camarena Health’s 19th annual scholarship fundraiser on Feb. 8.
“In my job one of the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done is the scholarship fundraiser,” said Judith Fenton, corporate services manager of Camarena Health. “It is a joy to review (students’) applications and to see their faces as you present them with a scholarship... These are students who might not otherwise get a scholarship. It is just a very rewarding experience.”
Camarena Health awarded seven $1,700 scholarships as a result of last year’s efforts, she said, and is working toward increasing both the number and amount of scholarships this year. It has given 110 scholarships — a total of $128,200 — to those in local communities in the more than three decades of its work in Madera.
The luncheon will feature “a tri-tip lunch with all of the fixins’,” according to Fenton, and will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Italo-American Club Hall, 331 South D St. Tickets for dine-in or takeout can be obtained for a donation of $10...
