After checking his list twice, Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter has only one more box to fill — a 2012 Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl victory.

DeRuyter’s first season has been unprecedented.

A win on Christmas Eve over Southern Methodist University (6-6) would give Fresno State (9-3) its first 10-win season since 2001.

The team’s nine regular season wins are the most for a first-year head coach in 60 years of Bulldog football. Clark Van Galder had eight wins in his first season coaching the ‘Dogs in 1952...
