Broadway at Lincoln: second graders perform classics

Some Lincoln Elementary School second graders made their onstage debut during a Wednesday performance of three Broadway hits in their school’s cafeteria.

The 27 students in Anna Herspring’s class rehearsed every day since the beginning of January during P.E. for their “Broadway Kids” performance featuring three dance numbers.

The kids danced and sang to “New York, New York,” “I Feel Pretty” and “You Gotta Have Heart” in front of their peers and nearly 100 parents and other family members.

“I think it’s so important for children to have the opportunity to perform on stage whether it’s singing or dancing,” Herspring said. “I love Broadway music and I was in dance for many years. I wanted to find a way to incorporate it into school.” ...
