Boy recovering from surgery to raise money for hydrocephalus research

If it weren’t for the scars and tape on 8-year-old Aiden Tanz’s head, those who meet him would never know that he has undergone 19 surgeries — 13 of which were on his brain — and is preparing for his 20th.

His spirit and smile are just too big for a child who has had to go through so much in his short life.

The Madera boy is recovering from his latest brain and abdominal surgery, which was on Oct. 1, but is determined not to miss the 5th Annual Fresno Hydrocephalus Association Walk on Sunday.

He attends every year in hopes of raising funds to find better treatments — or a cure — for hydrocephalus, the term used for the buildup of fluid inside the skull...
