Blood drive to help Madera kids

Members of the Madera Elks Lodge have been supporting the families of two local children with rare diseases for more than two years.

Their efforts continue with a blood drive in the Elks Lodge parking lot, 112 W. 6th St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday that will benefit Charlotte Quiroz-Bray and Kobe Garcia.

Charlotte is the 1-year-old daughter of Rebecca and David Bray. Kobe, 12, is the son of Gina Moffat and the grandson of late Madera judge Ed Moffat.

Charlotte Bray was born with biliary atresia, a rare condition in which the bile ducts do not develop normally. Doctors at the University of San Francisco Medical Center (UCSF) successfully accomplished a liver transplant, but because her immune system is very weak she has been in and out of UCSF and Childrens Hospital Central California...
