Man arrested after hit-and-run, home break-in, Tasering

A 36-year-old Madera man suspected of being under the influence of drugs hit a car on Howard Road near Westberry Boulevard, ran, attempted to carjack several vehicles and broke into a house before he was Tasered and arrested, according to police.

Police received several calls from motorists who saw the hit-and-run accident about 8 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses said he was breathing heavily and acting strange.

The suspect, Jose Luis Perez, was arrested after he tried to force his way into other cars, grabbed a cellphone from a bystander and led police on a chase west on Howard Road, according to authorities.

“I have never seen anything like it in my life,” said one motorist who saw the crash and stopped to help. “He was wild and looked like he’d been up or on something for days... attacking cars, running in traffic.” ...
