The family of Frank Bigelow, Republican candidate for the 5th District seat in the California Assembly, has been a part of Madera County’s history for more than a century. They came here in the 1880s, started ranching and running a stage line. Then they brought the telephone to the mountain area and founded the Ponderosa Telephone Company.

Frank Bigelow went to school at Spring Valley School in O’Neals and graduated from Sierra High School. After attending Fresno City College, he became an employee of his family’s Ponderosa Telephone Company in 1973.

Bigelow went on to work his way up through the ranks of the company, learning all facets of the business. He now serves as its vice president. He also remains active in the operation of Bigelow Farms, his family’s cattle ranch.

Bigelow was elected to represent District 1 on the Madera County Board of Supervisors in 1998 and was reelected in 2002, 2006, and 2010. He served as chairman of the board in 2002, 2006, and 2010. His current term expires in 2014...
