Bass Lake woman goes on weekend rampage

A woman who “smelled strongly of alcohol” disrupted traffic, disturbed a wedding, and punched a wheelchair-bound man in the face near her Bass Lake home over the weekend, sheriff’s officials said.

Gwen Lucille Sherrell, 52, was arrested Saturday afternoon at her house on Road 222 in Bass Lake.

According to witnesses, Sherrell was standing in the middle of the street with a large mixed breed pit bull dog at her side, sheriff’s spokesperson Erica Stuart said.

Stuart said before deputy Gerald Marin of the Madera County Sheriff’s Office arrived, witnesses reported Sherrell assaulted a man in a wheelchair for “no apparent reason.”...
