Bass Lake celebrates dam improvement completion

Jubilant business owners in Bass Lake have planned recreational activities to celebrate the first year, after four, that there will be no construction at Crane Valley Dam.

Pacific Gas & Electric Company celebrated the completion of its seismic retrofit project of the dam, which holds back Bass Lake, in a ceremony last month.

The 102-year-old dam was improved to meet current seismic safety standards and ensure the safety of the dam and residents of communities downstream.

To modernize the dam, PG&E and its contractors added approximately 300,000 cubic yards of rock fill on the upstream and downstream faces of the dam, and raised the dam crest by seven feet...
