New details on 1st killing of ’13

The shooting death of a 35- year-old Madera man at 2 a.m. New Year’s Day appears to have resulted from a fight earlier that night at a local bar, according to authorities.

Gerald “Buddy” Warren, a longtime Madera resident and father of five, was killed Tuesday in the 400 block of Milllview Drive, near Clinton Street, shortly after leaving Frankie’s bar on Yosemite Avenue.

“We are still piecing it together, without a lot of help from the community,” said Madera police detective Sgt. Robert Salas. “There was a fight at Frankie’s. They all got kicked out about 1:30 a.m., and then the fight continued after they all showed up at a residence on Millview.”

The shooter reportedly confronted Warren, continuing the fight, and then pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and shot Warren several times in the chest at close range. Everyone involved then fled the scene, leavingWarren bleeding to death on the curb, according to Salas...
