Balderas signs with Ocean View

New contract will give superintendent $50,000 annual raise over Madera pay starting Jan. 1

The Ocean View School District in Huntington Beach has namedMadera Unified School Superintendent Gustavo Balderas to be its new superintendent effective Jan. 1, and on Thursday, Balderas erased any doubt that he would leave Madera for the new job.

Balderas signed the contract on Tuesday.

Balderas’ 3 1/2-year contract with Ocean View provides an annual salary of $215,000 — $50,000 more than the $165,000 he makes at Madera Unified — a $10,000 moving allowance, a $300- per-month car allowance, vacation, and health and welfare benefits. The agreement runs through June 30, 2016.

Roni Ellis, Ocean View’s director of administration and community relations, confirmed that Balderas led the field of 20 candidates for the top job with “his spirit and extensive resume.” ...
