Madera County residents met with Assembly Member Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) in a town hall-style meeting.

The community coffee event in the Chowchilla District Chamber of Commerce drew 21 people on Thursday.

Olsen discussed issues affecting Chowchilla, including a lawsuit filed by the city council against the California High-Speed Rail Authority and the state corrections department’s planned conversion to a men’s facility of the Valley State Prison for Women.

One woman asked Olsen about the validity of a rumor that the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is moving forward with plans to transfer male inmates to the local prison despite a court-issued injunction granted to the City of Chowchilla...
