Arrests made in shooting death of teen

Three men with suspected gang connections have been arrested for last month’s drive-by shooting death of Jorge Navarro, a 17-year-old Madera teen walking home with his girlfriend near Road 27 and Martin Street, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

David Solis Ramos, 19, Alejandro Jimenez, 19, and Isaias Ismael Bazante, 20, all of Madera, were booked at various times over the course of two weeks and remain in Madera County Jail — with bail set at $1 million each — on charges of murder and committing crimes for the benefit of a gang, sheriff’s spokesperson Erica Stuart said.

The three are expected to be formally charged today at 8:30 a.m. in Madera County Superior Court for their alleged crimes, Madera County District Attorney Michael Keitz said.

On Sept. 3, the men — allegedly on their way to steal marijuana — recognized Navarro, who family and friends told authorities “had been struggling to get out of the gang life,” Stuart said...
