The Chowchilla Western Stampede Committee will celebrate its 55th consecutive year of roping this month.
The committee will honor longtime committee member, NFR team roping contestant and Madera County Under Sheriff Tom Turk, who died last spring, by producing the 8-steer roping in his honor during the Chowchilla Western Stampede April 12-15.
“This roping was always a favorite of Tom’s and we feel it is only right to honor him by naming this year’s roping after him,” said committee chairman Shane Barnes.
