Graduating students weren’t the only ones to be recognized in an annual scholarship ceremony, as retiring educators and supporters of Madera Dollars for Scholars stepped into the limelight.

For 23 years, the local chapter has helped alternative education students further their education by providing scholarships.

The awards night on Wednesday at Madera Community College recognized Dan Lindstrom, principal of Madera Adult School and Duane E. Furman High School, for his 37 years in education and longtime chapter member Rachel Donatelli.

Eighteen scholarships totaling $9,400 were presented to 15 students from Eastin Arcola High School, Madera Adult School and Duane E. Furman High School. Three new scholarships were added this year, according to board member David Hernandez...
