Alleged thieves caught near Chowchilla dairy

A Madera couple that allegedly attempted to make off with more than $1,000 worth of metal was arrested this week after the owner spotted the two fleeing his property, sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.

Jimmy Costa, 39, and Kristi Ann Blakney, 39, were arrested Wednesday as they drove away from a Chowchilla dairy near Road 15 and Robertson Boulevard.

Once the owner saw the suspected swindlers, he phoned the sheriff’s department and two deputies — Mark Schafer and recently-hired Jessica Martinez — arrested them, Stuart said.

In the back of their truck was a load of stolen metal that the property owner had planned on installing on his farm, Stuart said...
