Accusations and denials in the lawsuits against the DA and county

Within the last 12 months two former employees and one current employee of the Madera County District Attorney’s office have been awarded a total of $745,000 as the result of settlements of lawsuits they brought against District Attorney Michael Keitz and the County of Madera.

Besides the settlement money, the county also paid $651,642 to the outside firm of Cota Cole to defend the county against the suits and negotiate the settlements.

Like many settlements, these were negotiated in secret, with no admissions of wrongdoing on the part of either side in the suits.
