Academic contest set for Saturday

The Madera County Office of Education will host the 30th annual Academic Decathlon on Saturday at Madera South High School.

More than 75 students from eight high schools will compete in the 10-event academic competition. This year’s topic is The Age of Empire. The Super Quiz topic is The Age of Imperialism: The Making of a European Global Order.

“This event reinforces the importance of knowledge, spirit, opportunities for peer interactions and introduces students to a wide world of interests and study,” said Dr. Cecilia Massetti, Madera County superintendent of schools. “This program offers students a means to begin pursuing their goals on a local, county and state level.”

Each student will be required to deliver a prepared speech, an impromptu speech and interview before a panel of judges as well as take objective tests...
