A 6-year-old Madera boy sustained major injuries after a driver lost control on Highway 145 near Road 33 and struck the pickup truck he was a passenger in.

The collision occurred Sunday afternoon about 3:30 in clear and dry conditions, and closed Highway 145 for about an hour as emergency crews worked to treat the injured and clear the wreckage.

California Highway Patrol public information officer Mark Cosentino said the boy received major head injuries and investigation into the collision was ongoing.

Due to the extent of his injuries, the boy was taken via Lifeflight helicopter to CRMC, Cosentino said...
