$500 reward for dog killer

4-year-old’s Pekingese mix shot

A $500 reward is being offered by The Friends of Madera Animal Shelter for information leading to an arrest and a conviction in the shooting death of a 4-year-old girl’s lap dog.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 675-7891 and can remain anonymous.

The girl, Zoe, still misses her small, white Pekingese-mix dog named Celo. Her mother said she hasn’t had the heart to tell her daughter that Celo was found dead in the family’s side yard, with a single, small gunshot wound in his side.

The owners of the dog said they heard shots near Diablo Road and Avenue 19 1/2 around 3 or 4 a.m. on Jan. 10. When Celo did not come to the door, they knew something was wrong, they said...
