At the beginning of next week, the southbound State Route 99 on-ramp on 4th Street in central Madera will close for two days, Caltrans District 6 spokeswoman Gloria Rodriguez said Friday.

The on-ramp will close from 7 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Rodriguez said. Drivers will be detoured down I Street to the State Route 145 on-ramp while the 4th Street ramp is closed.

The closure is part of the 4th Street Widening Project, which began in June of last year and, when completed, will repave the street and add signal lights at its intersections with Sunset Avenue, H G and I streets, and Gateway Drive.

Wider lanes will also be added on the overpass over SR 99 when completed, Rodriguez said, with a total bill for all the work at $5.5 million...
