4th Street closes for a week

Until next week, a short stretch of 4th Street near the Union Pacific Railroad main line will be closed as crews replace arms along the track and put in new concrete, said engineering project manager Jerry Martinez.

Drivers along the road will be detoured either on E Street or Gateway Drive, Martinez said, until the construction, which began Monday, is finished.

“That crossing at 4th Street is not going to be open until next Tuesday, possibly Wednesday,” Martinez said.

The project sits a short distance from continuing renovation work along 4th Street to repave the road and add signal lights at the intersections with Sunset Avenue, H, G, and I streets, and Gateway Drive...
