About 40 residents gathered on the steps of the Madera County Museum at Courthouse Park on Thursday during the noontime community prayer event to pray for the nation and city to have prosperity and strength.

The event, one of three celebrated as part of the National Day of Prayer, has been organized by the Madera Ministerial Association and Madera Chamber of Commerce for more than 20 years to bring the Christian community together in worship.

“We pray for the town, the country, we pray for everything,” said John Pursell, a pastor at Believer’s Church of Madera. “We ask God to bless our nation and help restore our nation in whatever area we need.”

The prayer focused on seven different areas: government, church, military, family, education, media, and business...
