About 350 Madera families received food, clothes and toys in the annual Christmas Basket program on Sunday.
New and past donors helped the program give to more people this year, organizers said.
“It turned out pretty well. We had a really big donation from La Tapatía Tortilleria. And we had a really big donation from Stellar Distributing. We actually had more stuff than we were expecting. It’s a little better than last year,” said Doug Nelson, the director of the Madera Christmas Basket program.
Nelson said about 280 families were initially signed up for the program, but last minute donations allowed the program to give to about 350. Some people who showed up last minute and were not signed up turned away empty-handed, however...
