Three Madera County teenagers were arrested this week after authorities said they broke into a foothills golf course, vandalized golf carts and set fire to surveillance cameras that caught them in the act.
The teens from Coarsegold, ages 14 to 16, broke into a cart barn at the Yosemite Lakes Park Golf Course sometime from Saturday night to Sunday morning, sheriffs spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.
Ron Oldfield, security manager for the course, said the trio then stole three golf carts and destroyed a fourth before taking joyrides around the course, which caused thousands of dollars in damages.
“To the greens and course there wasn’t much damage, mostly just tire tracks,” Oldfield said. “But there was definite damage to the cart barn… we’re still working on an estimate but I’m probably looking at somewhere between three to four thousand dollars in total damages.” ...
