Kids in strollers sustain serious injuries

Three young children sustained serious injuries Tuesday afternoon after they were hit by an SUV at a bus stop on Stadium Road.

According to Madera police, an 18-year-old Madera South High School student lost control of the SUV he was driving and hit the children while they were in strollers. Two older children with them escaped serious injuries. The children’s mothers were waiting nearby at the Madera Area Express bus stop.

Police are not releasing the name of the student.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and said the children and strollers were hit and flung about 10 to 15 feet into a field. They also told police they heard the boy revving the engine and squealing the tires of the Ford Explorer shortly before he lost control and ran into the children as they were waiting on the shoulder of the roadway...
